Mildred Maldonado-Molina, Ph.D., associate professor in the department of health outcomes and policy and a faculty member of the Institute for Child Health Policy, was elected to serve on the board of directors of the Society for Prevention Research on Thursday, May 29 at an awards presentation during the society’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
“I am honored to serve on the board of directors of SPR, an organization I’ve been involved with since I was a graduate student 15 years ago,” said Maldonado-Molina, who is also the director of health outcomes and policy training and education in the department of health outcomes and policy. “I have seen this organization grow, and I plan to continue to strengthen SPR’s dedication to and support of translational and health disparities research focused on reducing alcohol and drug use, violence and drugged driving among youth.”
In addition, she plans to contribute to SPR’s initiatives of applying innovative statistical methods to prevention science and supporting early career investigators.
Maldonado-Molina has served on several SPR committees, including the Early Career Prevention Network (ECPN), the Diversity Network Committee (DNC) and conference planning. She will serve on the board of directors from June 2014 until June 2017.
“Dr. Maldonado can have a significant impact on the field of prevention science,” said Guillermo “Willy” Prado, Ph.D., the director of the division of prevention science and community health in the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine’s department of public health sciences. “Her appointment to the board of the Society for Prevention Research is one mechanism by which she will be able to accomplish this.”
