Dr. Modave recently joined the Department of Health Outcomes and Policy at the University of Florida as associate professor. Prior to this appointment, he was chair and tenured associate professor of the Department of Computer Science at Jackson State University, and an adjunct faculty at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – El Paso, Texas, where he held a joint appointment with Family Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. François received his M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Université of Paris IX -Dauphine in 1994, in Paris France, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from ENSEEIHT – Université Toulouse III also in France, in 1999.
His research focuses on the development of algorithms and their informatics implementation in biomedical research (health informatics and bioinformatics), with a particular emphasis on the understanding of medical decision-making processes, involving patients and healthcare providers. Dr. Modave has been the recipient of awards from the National Cancer Institute, the National Science Foundation, for which he has also served on multiple panels, Army Research Lab, NASA / Boeing, and IBM, and is a reviewer for several international journals and conferences on intelligent systems and their applications.
Dr. Modave’s areas of expertise are biomedical informatics, decision-making, decision theory and their applications to clinical problems, and public health.
