The New York Times quotes Dr. Wagenaar

The New York Times quoted Dr. Alex Wagenaar in an article about how the negative effects of drugs frequently gain prominence, while the negative effects of alcohol are often overlooked. When the article was posted on Feb. 18, it was the eighth most emailed and fourth most viewed on the Times website.

In the article, columnist Frank Bruni argues that, especially in light of Whitney Houston’s death, people tend to emphasize the ways drugs can damage a person, while minimizing the harm that alcohol can have on the human body. While the excise taxes on tobacco have gone up in recent years, Bruni points out, the taxes on alcohol have actually declined.

Dr. Wagenaar specializes in alcohol research and lends his expertise in Bruni’s article. Please click here to read the article.
