ICHP, in partnership with the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics (HOBI) and the Anita Zucker Center, houses one of the largest and most unique clinical research venues and real-world data repositories for women and children. The PCORI-funded OneFlorida+ Clinical Research Network was developed for the conduct of pragmatic clinical trials and to make trustworthy, high quality data from health systems, public programs, and other sources to generate real word solutions for pressing health problems.

The Network’s Data Trust is a key data asset used for the development of large language models (LLMs) to better identify adolescents with depression, suicidality risks and substance use among pregnant women and youth. ICHP-affiliated researchers were instrumental in the development of GatorTron and ongoing innovations using HiPerGator.

Translation to Practice
ICHP faculty are engaged in multiple initiatives to translate research findings into clinical and community settings. ICHP collaborates with UF Health on the PCORIfunded Health System Implementation Initiative (HSII) to implement evidence-based research findings. ICHP worked with the UF Department of Pediatrics on implementing evidence-based practices for prescribing antibiotics for children. ICHP faculty participate in the Florida Health Policy Leadership Academy, which provides training for community leaders and locally elected officials to implement interventions. ICHP collaborated on training leaders to implement tobacco cessation initiatives within their communities.
Impact
ICHP faculty have obtained funding from a wide range of granting agencies including NIH, NCI, PCORI, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. From 2015 through 2024, ICHP-affiliated faculty have obtained $185 million in grant funding.
Strategic Priorities
ICHP continues to lead with innovations in advancing research and the use of real- world data. Aligned with UF’s strategic AI initiative, we are conducting innovative work to enhance the adoption of clinical note data in multisite studies to better inform participant identification as well as study outcomes. We are continuing to expand our capabilities to conduct pragmatic clinical trials in a range of rural and urban settings. We also are expanding our data linkages to incorporate additional clinical and genetic information combined with exposome data to enhance the precision of cohort discovery for clinical trials and to better understand health outcomes across the lifespan.
